Leadership Rogers County (LRC) tours local non-profit organizations making a difference in Claremore, OK on October 8, 2025.
Leadership Rogers County (LRC) had the privilege of spending the day visiting impactful non-profit organizations serving the Claremore community and surrounding counties. The tour highlighted the vital work being done to support children, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and animal welfare. The day began at the William W. Barnes Children’s Advocacy Center, which provides trauma-informed services to individuals up to 18 years old across Mayes, Craig, and Rogers Counties. Executive Director Katie Drilling shared the center’s mission is to offer a safe, neutral space for children to share their experiences of suspected abuse or neglect. In 2024 alone, the center conducted 412 forensic interviews, ranking fourth in the state in volume. The CAC also offers mental health services and court advocacy for survivors. Next, LRC visited Home of Hope, where Vocational Program Coordinator Floyd Welch introduced programs that provide meaningful employment and life skills training for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through their resale store, recycling center, and horticulture program, participants gain independence and purpose. One participant, Jamie, shared, “I like working because it gives me something to do.” HOH, spanning eight counties, also supports residential living and sends members to the Special Olympics annually. Community members are encouraged to support their efforts by shopping at Centsible Spending in downtown Claremore or donating to their cause. The final stop was at the Claremore Animal Center, where Supervisor Jean Hurst and her team demonstrated their deep commitment to animal welfare. From enforcing city, state, and federal laws to providing compassionate care, their dedication was evident. The center welcomes donations of cleaning supplies and pet food and is open five days a week to serve the community and its furry residents. Leadership Rogers County is grateful for the opportunity to learn from these organizations and encourages the public to support their missions. These non-profits exemplify the heart of Rogers County—serving with compassion, purpose, and resilience. Leadership Rogers County is a program designed to develop leaders by broadening their perspectives and providing practical insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the community. It also offers the participants the chance to build networks and have fun while learning about Rogers County. For more information, contact [email protected]
